Professor Sir Al Aynsley-Green, Children’s Commissioner for England gave the Duchy Health Charity’s President’s Lecture on "11 million reasons to listen seriously to the voices of children and young people" last Friday evening.
The President’s Annual Lecture was held at the Knowledge Spa, which the Duchy Health Charity helped fund, and a packed audience included guests from the medical and educational sectors in Cornwall.
Sir Al’s thought provoking lecture provided insights into the issues and concerns for young people today, with their own recommendations on the support children and young people need to make positive and informed decisions about their physical and mental well-being.
Working with this knowledge professionals and families have been equipped to engage with their children and young people leading to their having happier and healthy lives. But there was still a great deal of work to be done, and a worrying rise in the misunderstanding and fear between the generations.
Sir Al praised the work of the Duchy Health Charity saying "You are doing your best to improve the lives and health of young people in Cornwall. Well done, I salute you."
Chairman of the Duchy Health Charity, Michael Galsworthy explained that the charity had focused much of its recent work on the health needs of children and young people in Cornwall with a new project emerging as a result. The project, which links health and education to deliver support and guidance as a preventative measure for young people, is due to be launched before Christmas.
